About this idea
The Coloring Museum (TCM) brings experiential art, tourism, and entertainment/nightlife to the corridor of our neighborhood. We’re coloring for a purpose – using the power of the crayon to improve one’s quality of life by helping to decrease mental illnesses, such as anxiety, stress, and depression. It’s the only interactive art museum where you can color black-and-white murals composed by community artists. Every inch of the museum is painted white and outlined in black to give an illusion of a 2D effect in our 3D world. By commissioning muralists and graffiti artists, TCM provides a creative outlet and fosters a connection between visitors and local art. Coloring the murals with washable crayons and markers adds a playful touch and invites you to reconnect with your inner child. This creative activity allows you to stand still in a constantly moving world, transporting you to a space of tranquility and joy. It's a unique way to unwind and reprieve from everyday life's hustle and bustle.
Impact
Do you know the power of coloring? The MIGHTY CRAYON provides memorable experiences while making you feel better without breaking the bank. It is estimated that 42% percent of Americans are experiencing anxiety and depression. According to NAMI.org, 1 in 5 U.S. adults experiences mental illness each year. And 1 in 6 U.S. youth ages 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the U.S., but it’s the 2nd leading cause of death among people 10-14 of age and the 3rd leading cause of death among those who are 15-24 of age in the U.S. Studies have shown that coloring can reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress by 73%. It calms the brain and helps your body relax, which can help improve sleep and fatigue while decreasing body aches, heart rate, respiration, and feelings of depression and anxiety. Coloring can help you become more mindful and is a therapeutic activity for adults to escape the everyday stressors of life. Children who color can develop motor skills, acquire patience and relaxation, boost confidence, and promote creativity. TCM is more than an interactive art museum; it's a purposeful initiative for everyone to liberate themselves from the stigma surrounding mental illness.
What I'll do with $5,000
The Coloring Museum is also mobile, know as The Coloring Wall! The $5,000 will supercharge The Coloring Wall workflow! The Coloring Wall (TCW) is a 10’x6’ versatile masterpiece perfect for team building, community events, and beyond. TCW offers custom illustrations that are printed on washable wallpaper, making every experience unique. Currently, our clients are demanding fast turnarounds, but I rely on third-party printers for our wallpaper, which increases production costs. With a large format printer, we'll gain control, flexibility, and cut down on expenses by printing our own wallpaper. Additionally, TCW is gaining popularity, and a second coloring wall is needed for meeting our consumers’ demand. Winning this grant will not only streamline operations but also catalyze the expansion of The Coloring Museum, marking a vibrant stride towards an even more colorful future!
