The honeybee’s pollinating ability is crucial to human survival. Every year 1.7 million hives are loaded onto trucks and transported around the country to pollinate a large majority of our food supply. The hive known as the Langstroth hive is currently the industry standard but has many downfalls and was developed in the 19th century without transportation in mind.Due to design inefficiencies many honeybees die during transport due to a wide variety of stresses. My hive has many innovations to help reduce stress on the bees. It is designed to cross stack for stability and additional airflow. I have designed a thermostatically controlled vent that helps keep the bees at optimal temperature. Plus there are many other innovations I have developed that have the potential to improve bee keeping for both humans and the bees.
Solving some of the problems that plague the honeybee can have a global impact on food production and the survival of the human race.
What I Will Do With $5,000
I would use the money to continue the research and development of my hive.
