In January 2018, I released my debut album, “Escape: Bach’s Six Suites for Solo Cello,” with the hope and intention of releasing ESCAPE II, my segue recording, soon after. ESCAPE II features the original cello music accompanied by a unique and stirring choral arrangement that climbs outside tradition, allowing me to pursue my dream: a more accessible presentation of this beautiful music in a new and engaging context. In my experience, people across the world connect deeply with the human voice, and the arrangement is written in an uncluttered, minimal way so as to highlight Bach’s harmonies and rhythmic characters.
I am fortunate to be working on this project with Martin Green, Music Director for St. Paul’s Cathedral in San Diego) and a small group of select singers from his choirs (2 boy sopranos, 2 sopranos, 2 altos, 2 tenors, 2 basses).

I will reach my audience primarily through social media (youtube—a promotional music video; instagram; facebook), traditional news outlets (many with whom I have already connected as a result of my debut album), and live performances.
ESCAPE II will offer a moment of serenity in a hectic and noisy world, while serving as an encouragement to other musicians to think outside the “classical” box, and bringing Bach’s music and all it entails to a wider and more diverse audience.
What I Will Do With $5,000
Funding for ESCAPE II will go towards paying the singers for their time. Martin has very generously volunteered his time for the project, and the Cathedral has a great recording system set up that we can use pro bono, as well as headphones for the singers.
I plan to cover the cost of releasing the recording (on CDBaby) through crowdfunding and my own savings.
