HandiRake Cleaner

HandiRake Cleaner

David DeWinter 145 Views https://HandiRake.com

Most everyone who uses a garden rake knows that debris such as twigs, leaves, pine
needles, weeds, roots and pet poop often get clogged between the rake tines.  The
user must then use her/his fingers to pull out the debris—which is a tedious and dirty
task.  The HandiRake Tine Cleaner can be installed on a standard 14-tine garden rake,
transforming it into the ultimate self-cleaning rake for your yard & garden.  A quick
pump on the tube instantly scrapes off stuck debris—and no more dirty fingers!
The product will be completely made in the Grand Rapids area, and will retail for about
$7.00.  It is made from durable HDPE plastic, and weighs only 6 ounces.  Because the
item is patented (# 6,722,115), there is nothing else like it on the market.  It will be
available from the website HandiRake.com and from local hardware stores by April 15.

Impact

Besides the obvious benefit of making raking easier, another bonus is that as more
HandiRake Cleaners get sold, more jobs will be created by the area companies who
help make the product.  A TV commercial campaign will begin in mid-April in lower
west Michigan (shown on FOX-17 channels).  As the commercial expands coverage to
other states (hopefully nationwide), the economic benefit to local companies could be
significant.

What I Will Do With $5,000

The 30-second TV commercial will run from mid-April to mid-May, and will be shown
at all different times of the day (total of 200 spots during the 4-week period).  Although
the website will be operational at that time, not enough money is available to advertise
online.  I would use the $5,000 to market the product online (i.e.- Google shopping ads,
behavioral targeting, SEO, etc.) and to buy more TV time.

About David DeWinter

I've lived in Michigan all my life, and enjoy our changing seasons. During the warmer months I work as an arborist. During the winter I like to invent new useful products for the consumer marketplace, and enjoy the entire development process -- from writing patents, product development, final design, and manufacturing the shelf-ready product. Having recently discovered the 5x5 funding platform, I am looking forward to the entrepreneurial opportunity to share my ideas and move them forward.
