The Bob Ross wet-on-wet painting technique from PBS’s “The Joy of Painting” has reached millions of people from around the globe and has shown time and time again that anyone can paint if they have the desire and are willing to try. I tried my first painting less than a year ago with no previous painting experience and was blown away by what I was capable of creating and how much joy the process brought me. Unfortunately, there are no opportunities in the local community to get exposure to this style of painting and learn the fundamental techniques. I believe that this is the perfect opportunity for me to share my newfound love of painting with the local community by holding events where you can walk in with no knowledge of how to paint, and walk out with a beautiful, finished painting less than a few hours later.
Over the course of a few hours, painting was transformed from a curiosity into a lifelong passion. The experience of finishing my first painting left me feeling motivated, inspired, and truly, genuinely happy. I see that painting every day and walk out the door with a smile on my face. That smile follows me everywhere I go that day, having a positive effect on myself and also those around me. I believe that everyone can feel that same sense of joy if given the opportunity and guidance to paint.
What I Will Do With $5,000
With this grant, I will travel to Florida to become a Certified Ross Instructor where I will hone my skills in the wet-on-wet technique of painting, but more importantly learn the best ways of teaching this technique to others ($3000). With the rest of the grant, I will buy all the supplies necessary to hold Bob Ross painting workshops and share the Joy of Painting with the rest of the community ($2000).
