La Única is a contemporary art space in El Salvador dedicated to Central American art,
artists, and their diasporas. Our goal is simple — to provide space for the creation of and
interaction with art. La Única was formed as a hybrid for-profit/non-profit gallery in order
to allow us to access diverse funding streams, support and opportunities.
La Única is a space that elevates the work of art; generating knowledge, facilitating
relationships and opportunities for the art, artists, collectors and public. Through a means of a constant and critical questioning, even in the minimal and quotidian aspects of our operations, we intend to move away from formulaic solutions and treat every detail as an opportunity for intervention and innovation. We are dedicated to the ideas and the artists, and to developing relationships that grow over time—which is how we believe great galleries are born.

Impact

La Única gallery will be a space that elevates the work of art; generating knowledge, facilitating relationships and opportunities for the art, artists, collectors and public. It will transcend the role of a gallery, becoming a cultural reference for Central Americans in the region and abroad. We will help make visible a region and community that is most often marginalized and forgotten, even within the larger Latin American context.

What I Will Do With $5,000

We have the space, internet, electricity, a hammer, nails and enough paint to last us the first year. If we win the $5,000 it will go directly to the following: production money for each show $400 (x5 exhibitions), floor repairs $400, construction of two moveable walls $450, electric work to improve the outlets $230, hold an inaugural event with drinks and light food $300, foldable chairs ($25 x15 chairs) $375, projector $250, screens $400 and iPad for interactive pieces $550. TOTAL: $4,995
