Pawpaws Pickles

A pickle craze is sweeping the nation, making pickles in high demand. Some pickles can take 42 days to make, lack fresh taste, crunchiness, and contain artificial ingredients such as preservatives and colors for shelf-life. There are not enough healthy choices available.

About this idea

Michigan is the largest pickle producing state with a market of $17M USD. The market is projected to continue to grow. Pawpaw's Pickles has demonstrated that customers love the brand, the variety of flavors, farm to table fresh taste and customer service. Since we produce small batches, Pawpaw's Pickles can quickly pivot to bring new products to market based on consumer emerging tastes for flavors. Customers like to buy local. However we also ship. Lastly Pawpaw's Pickles introduced to some and reintroduced to others a southern condiment Cha Cha (slaw) also known as chow chow is some regions. This category is a near cousin to pickles. Cha Cha production can barley keep up with demand because it is rarely found in stores and elevates any sandwhich or dish. All of our products are literally "lip smackin good".

Impact

Our products are farm to table in 3-5 days, free of artificial ingredients, help close the supply demand gap in a growing market. Pawpaws Pickles also helps boost the local economy by supporting Michigan farmer's and attracts loyal customers to local farmers markets and events. As demand grows Pawpaws will need to add 3-5 jobs.

What I'll do with $5,000

This grant is requested to purchase a round product label applicator. As the business is trying to scale and do more online and retail business a more professional looking product is needed to be attractive on shelves and online. Currently labels are self produced and applied by hand which is very time consuming. The label applicator will speed up production by freeing up hours to label hundreds of jars. The time saved can be used to increase production.
