About this idea
The Young Hustle Basketball Club removes financial barriers to travel basketball, giving kids aged 9-17 access to high-quality training, mentorship, and competitive opportunities. For just $1,075 per player, we cover uniforms, shoes, backpacks, practices, and one-on-one training. We also offer innovative solutions like work opportunities through our construction business, where kids can earn their expenses while learning valuable skills. With 14 teams and over 140 players, our program fosters discipline, teamwork, and exposure to college recruiters. We aim to provide a travel van for transportation, ensuring no child misses out on practices or games due to financial or logistical challenges.
Impact
The Young Hustle Basketball Club is transforming the lives of over 140 kids aged 9-17, many from low-income families, by providing access to travel basketball—a gateway to college scholarships, personal development, and a brighter future. For these youth, AAU basketball is more than a sport; it’s an outlet and a lifeline. According to the Aspen Institute’s Project Play, 38% of kids from families earning less than $25,000 annually stop playing sports due to high costs, compared to only 16% from higher-income families. Our program directly tackles this disparity by covering essential costs like uniforms, shoes, backpacks, and training. In addition, we teach responsibility and skills by offering kids work opportunities through a construction business, allowing them to earn their way while building self-worth. Without programs like ours, these kids face limited opportunities for mentorship and college exposure. Instead of falling into cycles of poverty or risky behavior, they gain access to structured activities, caring mentors, and skills that prepare them for both sports and life. With support, we can continue to create lasting change—opening doors for college scholarships, building character, and breaking generational barriers.
What I'll do with $5,000
With $5000 we will be able to cover all of our high school gear and uniform packages for the upcoming spring season going from April through July. Puma requires all kids to have puma shoes and puma uniforms in order to play on the puma circuit with young hustle
