About this idea
Violet Flour Bakes is a modern, home-based bakery that blends fine art and flavor to create connection through desserts. I specialize in upscale wedding and celebration cakes, cookies, dessert tables, and seasonal creative pastries that blend fine design with heartfelt story telling- each one crafted to feel as unforgettable as the moment it's apart of. Beyond creating, I also teach- hosting decorating classes that empower others to create and explore their own creativity and confidence. My classes bring people together through shared artistry, turning dessert design into connection and community. Where traditional bakeries focus more on mass production, Violet Flour Bakes focuses on emotion and experience. Creating desserts that look stunning, taste delectable, and create lasting memory. I currently work from my home kitchen under Michigan Cottage Foods laws which limit my income capacity to $20,000/year, my ingredient types and usages, and selling locations. I am also severely limited in space for both creating and storage. My idea is to expand into a licensed commercial incubator kitchen that will allow me to keep up with growing demand, raise my income capacity, sell through local small businesses, and host more in-person workshops. This will allow me to scale my business and be able to start saving money for my overall goal of someday owning my own brick and mortar location.
Impact
Violet Flour Bakes exists to create connection through edible beauty. Every cake, dessert, or class is an opportunity for people to slow down, create, and share joy. By expanding into a licensed kitchen space, I can: -Expand my offerings to be able to offer more inclusive dessert options for those with food allergies or intolerances. -Partner with local cafes, florists, and venues to elevate community events and markets. - Expand my decorating classes to reach more people, inspiring creativity and confidence- especially for other women and mothers craving a creative outlet. - Model entrepreneurship that blends artistry, business, and motherhood in a way that feels sustainable and inspiring to others. The world looks different when desserts don't just fill a table- they create belonging, artistry, and joy.
What I'll do with $5,000
$5,000 would be the key to transforming Violet Flour Bakes from a small home-based bakery into a fully licensed business. I would use the funds to: - Secure a spot in a local incubator kitchen (downtown market) - Pay for associated licensing fees - Purchase the essential tools and smallwares needed to operate commercially - Purchase items to be able to sell at markets such as a folding table, signage, display stands, etc. - Invest any leftover money into building a backstock of ingredients and packaging This will unlock new revenue streams- wholesale, collaborations, markets, and expanded workshops which will allow Violet Flour Bakes to grow while keeping the same handcrafted, heartfelt quality.
