About this idea
When there’s a crisis, we’re taught the holy trinity of digits: 9-1-1. But cops aren’t always the right response and they’re oftentimes not properly trained for these specific crisis situations. The goal is consolidating every life-saving alternative available in Los Angeles into one place: findable and deployable in under 60 seconds. An additional priority is to reduce cognitive load when someone’s attempting to reach potential life-saving support. We don’t offer a thousand options and are not inventing anything new, we're simply organizing resources and making them accessible and visible. The four crises we are focused on are: * Overdose * Sexual assault medical care * Elder or dependent at risk * In-person de-escalation User Flow: Tap the relevant crisis button -> it calls/sends who you actually need.
Impact
We turn a desperate moment into a single, certain tap that could be the difference in a life-threatening situation.
What I'll do with $5,000
Initial funding will be strategically allocated to transition the project from a conceptual stage to a formal, fundable entity. The outcomes will be a legally sound structure, a clear project plan, and professional materials, which together are required to secure the significant funding needed for full-scale platform development. All numbers below are estimates of what the distribution of the $5k would look like: 1. Technical Infrastructure – $1,500 Funds will support the technical foundation required to deploy a functional public beta prototype. Expenses include domain registration, secure hosting services, backend infrastructure, cloud services, and cybersecurity setup necessary to ensure stable and reliable platform performance. 2. User Interface and Accessibility Review – $1,200 Funds will support contracted professional services to conduct a usability and accessibility review of the prototype. This includes mobile optimization, crisis-informed user interface feedback, and ADA-aligned accessibility recommendations to ensure equitable access during high-stress scenarios. 3. Legal and Risk Mitigation – $1,200 Funds will support consultation and drafting of essential compliance materials, including privacy policy development, terms of use, liability language, and risk mitigation review appropriate for a crisis navigation platform. 4. Contract Technical Support – $800 Funds will support limited contracted development assistance for routing logic refinement, code review, and structural optimization to ensure reliability and scalability of the prototype. 5. User Testing and Evaluation – $300 Funds will support structured prototype testing, documentation of user feedback, and minimal participant incentives to validate usability and inform iterative improvements.
