Impact
Incorporating CRICKET POWDER into your diet can have several positive impacts, both on an individual level and for the environment.
Cricket powder is high in protein—far more than traditional sources like beef, chicken, or plant-based alternatives such as tofu. It’s also rich in vitamins and minerals, like B12, iron, calcium, and magnesium. Additionally, it contains omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart and brain health. Plus, it’s low in carbs and gluten-free friendly, making it an excellent choice for those following low-carb, keto, or gluten-free diets.
Crickets are one of the most sustainable protein sources on the planet. Cricket farming requires significantly fewer resources such as water, land, and feed compared to traditional livestock, and crickets produce fewer greenhouse gases and generate less waste. By choosing this eco-friendly protein alternative, customers are contributing to a more sustainable food system and helping reduce their environmental footprint.
What I'll do with $5,000
We have started selling our cricket powder at the Fulton Market, and the response has been amazing. Quickly, we realized that we are now selling more than we can produce. Therefore, the money will be used to acquire a shipping container, which will help us increase our farming capacity and scale production to meet market demand. This will also allow us to place our product in additional markets.

I'm Montse, co-founder of The Green Leap.
I was born in Mexico, and almost 3 years ago I moved with my family to Grand Rapids. Having lived in Mexico extensively, I\'m not new to the idea of incorporating insects into our food (grasshopper salt is amazing!). However, I wasn\'t fully aware of all the benefits they offer.
In our family, we have dietary restrictions, and as a mom, I\'m always looking for healthy and eco-friendly options for us.
One day, I came across an article published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations that explained the nutritional and environmental advantages of edible insects. YAY! I found something good for both our family and the planet! After overcoming the challenges of raising our first 500 crickets, it became clear that we wanted to expand our operation. And that’s how it all started…
