Impact
With predicted global food shortages and continued supply change challenges, expanding local food systems is increasingly important. Over 20 million Americans have started growing at least some of their own food since the start of the pandemic (via Forbes, 2021). With a renewed interest in growing food, there has also been an increase in finding local food sources.
Traditional local food sources like farmer's markets and locally sourced distribution channels are great options for food producers who have built up their supply and distribution to meet those demands. For families growing food for their own use, there are few options to become a local food access point and build up a customer base. Farmish gives users a platform to sell their homegrown food and make money in a way that supports their current lifestyle while giving consumers more options to find and purchase food grown within their own communities.
What I'll do with $5,000
The $5,000 will be used to outsource some development tasks to an agency to improve search function, add database duplicity, and ongoing bug fixes. The search improvements will expand the map feature and add filtering of the map pins with the option to view the results as a list. Expanding the map is based on user feedback and will make the results more efficient as the listings increase.
Outsourcing these tasks will free me up for additional marketing, promotion, and growth-centered work. The agency has already quoted out the projects and I have worked with them on other tasks for Farmish. They work quickly and efficiently.
