Thigdu

Thigdu is mission of seeing denim waste as raw material and representing a new opportunity to design a circular system and give a new life to pre-and post-consumer denim waste. Along with being a sustainable company, Thigdu is going to launch with offering a range of lifestyle products as well as home décor products, all handmade by underprivileged women artisans from across India.

About this idea
Denim is one of the most widely used materials in the world. However, its production has a great impact on our environment. More than 4000 gallons of water are used to produce a single pair of jeans while the amount of waste jeans generated annually is being estimated as 2.16 million tons. So, I created Thigdu as my solution to this problem. For a better understanding of the solution, I have come up with this ecosystem which is basically an example of what circular fashion looks like. Our solution starts with collecting as much pre-and post-consumer denim waste as possible from many factories and warehouses across India. Pre-consumer waste is basically the amount of waste generated during the manufacturing process. While post-consumer waste is the discarded jeans that are used and end up in the landfill. We collect waste in our warehouse, and we make our final handmade products. At Thigdu, every product is different, recreated, and upcycled. I believe that every customer owns a one-of-kind product that is sustainable, ethical, and tells a story. I am not just selling a product I am selling them stories and emotions. Every product will have the name of the maker inside it. The customer can go to our website and know about their makers. People love to be emotionally involved in the things they purchase. And that is what I am selling. EMOTIONS! Since the cost of raw materials is very low, my profit margin will be between 200-250%
Impact
Circular Fashion – We want to design, source, produce and provide products with the intention to be used and circulate responsibly and effectively in society for as long as possible. • Secondly Reducing Environmental Footprint and focus on, • Ethical Production – I want to promote fashion that aims to reduce the negative impact on people, animals, and the planet. • Finally, supporting local Artisans in India is very important for my company – I want to employ and train underprivileged women who lost their jobs during COVID. My aim is to give them an opportunity to improve their living standards by paying them their fair shares. So, for every product sold, some percentage of my profit goes directly to the maker of the specific product.
What I'll do with $5,000
I will use $2500 to cover my manufacturing cost, $700 for custom sustainable package designing, $1800 Marketing(Pop-up shops, campaigns, social media, model photography, product photography for the website, and partnerships with influencers)
