About this idea
The THIRSTYGIRL sponge cuts out the need for additional makeup tools, while maintaining a budget-friendly cost and enhancing the daily makeup routine with precision edges and faces. Our sponge would last 5-6 months compared to the leading competitorā€™s three. Here, we would save consumers an estimated $90 per year spent towards replacing their sponges alone. In addition, our sponge is designed uniquely with simplifying the makeup routine, to enhance the consumer experience and highlight the two key needs of our customer: product application and facial structure, designing edges and grooves to target hard to reach places on the face, in addition to makeup steps application. The goal is to limit bacterial growth, as this is the leading cause of mold buildup in sponges. We removed the inner microfiber sponge core, allowing for consumers to flip their sponge invertedly. With this portion excluded, our sponge lacks outside product buildup that traps the moisture which feeds this mold growth, and becomes easier to clean as well. In addition the base is specifically designed to minimize surface-to-surface contact, prohibiting surface bacteria from spreading to the tool more than through common use.
Impact
The ThirstyGirl sponge, priced at $11.99 and needing replacement every 5-6 months, offers substantial annual savings compared to a $20 competitor sponge that lasts just 3 months. Consumers save approximately $100 per year by switching to ThirstyGirl. Additionally, this innovative sponge eliminates the need for extra makeup tools with its precision edges and faces, simplifying the makeup routine and enhancing application. Designed to minimize bacterial growth, the ThirstyGirl sponge lacks an inner microfiber core, reducing moisture and product buildup, and features a base that limits surface-to-surface contact. These unique attributes make it easier to clean and more hygienic, addressing key customer needs for product application and facial structure enhancement, thereby offering a superior, cost-effective alternative to leading competitors.
What I'll do with $5,000
A $5,000 grant would significantly bolster ThirstyGirl Cosmetics by supporting key areas essential for growth. With a minimum order quantity of 3,000 units and a cost per unit of $2.27, production and packaging expenses total $6,810. The $5,000 grant would cover the majority of these costs, leaving $1,810 to be funded through other sources. Previous grant funding of $5,500 has already covered our working costs of $4,400 and $1,100 of the $2,500 provisional patent fee. This grant would also enable us to enhance our sorority partnership program, driving brand awareness and sales through event sponsorships, promotional materials, and exclusive discounts. By strengthening our marketing efforts within the college community, we aim to build a loyal customer base and drive sustainable growth. The comprehensive support provided by this grant would solidify ThirstyGirl Cosmetics' foundation, ensuring our ability to meet demand, protect our intellectual property, and effectively market our products.
