About this idea
An aesthetically pleasing design that melds elegantly into nature, and suits many backyard decors. Where once people tried to fit birds into boxes, we can now shelter them in more natural, familiar surroundings. Nature abhors a box. The taper in the design keeps the box cooler when the sun is high and hot, it makes it more difficult for predators to access, and it allows for more gentle egress of fledglings. Designed to fold flat for shipping and store shelves. Yet, it assembles in seconds. For storage, the Bird Cradle can be stacked as assembled, or disassembled in seconds to fold flat. Made from all-natural, locally-sourced materials.
Impact
Global. The wild birds product market is expected to garner a market value of $7.3 Billion by 2032. Every gardener requires a birdhouse to welcome the birds that provide natural pest control. 71.5 million households have a garden in the U.S. In North America alone, the lawn and garden market is anticipated to surpass $38 Billion by 2032. There are between 50 billion and 430 billion birds in the world. 1878 species (18.1% of all bird species in the world) nest in cavities. 13% (249 species) of cavity nesters are vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.
What I'll do with $5,000
The funds will allow me to purchase materials to build Bird Cradles and to deliver them to dozens of prospective manufactures around the world, as well as to other people of influence in the industry, and to laboratories for ongoing and further testing.
Quick Bio
A lifetime of engineering, design, and permaculture practice have taken me all around our beautiful world. Yet, a Bird Cradle full of chickadee hatchlings may just be my greatest accomplishment.
