About this idea
NEEDHOURS NETWORK is an online subscription-based marketplace that safely connects people needing hours of affordable home healthcare with students needing hours of career experience required for graduate school admission. Our concept is simple, but the two problems we solve are complex. #1 - For families, finding safe and affordable care is increasingly challenging as the nation faces a devastating shortage of home care workers. #2 - For college students, medical programs in Nursing, Physician Assistant, Medicine, etc. require thousands of hours of direct patient care experience. Surprisingly, schools DO NOT help find these hours and there is no one-stop platform to obtain them. By creatively pairing these problems, we have developed a solution that addresses an unmet need. Different from our competition, we focus on STUDENTS. They are educated, interested in a medical career, and on a timeline with an ambitious goal - to accumulate hours that meet their school's requirements. We believe students are the NEW GENERATION OF CARE.
Impact
There is an urgent need for this service as home health care workers are set to outpace every other occupation over the next five years. We offer a NEW option for families in need of care for their loved ones. Hiring students fills a unique gap, making home care more affordable and flexible than traditional agencies. Students benefit by gaining easy access to medical experience that fits around busy school schedules. They can achieve their goals of becoming competitive applicants for advanced degree programs and/or successfully land jobs in their desired fields.
What I'll do with $5,000
$5000 will be used to build traction to our site. We will put the money to immediate use to expand our pilot program to west Michigan colleges such as GVSU and Western. $3000 will pay student ambassadors in pre-professional majors to build awareness through social media and get students registered. To reach families, we will use $2000 to educate and provide materials to medical providers, social workers, and discharge planners - the advisors families rely on when hiring home care.
