Impact
Our Exquisite Pollution Under the Sea Installation is about the dangers of plastics in the water to the health of people and life on this planet. As plastics decay they break into smaller and smaller pieces. Animals, birds, and sea creatures do not realize that they cannot eat the plastics and they not only eat it, but feed it to their babies as well. The albatross are going extinct because plastics have become a mainstay of their diet and it is killing them. Plastic ropes, straws, fishing nets, fishing line is wrapping around animals and strangling them. When the plastics become small enough they are going through our water filtration plants and we are drinking the plastics. Many people buy plastic bottles of water which are also putting plastics into the water even though you cannot see it happening. My installation seeks to educate people about the hazards of plastics and how we can minimalize our use of plastic and keep them out of our water systems. Right now my installation is in a storage unit. It needs to be seen around the world.
What I'll do with $5,000
I need to make trips to New York City to meet with curators and find an agent. I have estimated the cost of flying to New York City at about $500 per round trip. Driving my van and taking art with me was about the same cost since I would have to stay in a hotel one night each way. Four nights in Brooklyn will cost roughly $500 for each trip. I will need to make at least three trips to create relationships. I am estimating approximately $1000 per trip for a total of $3000. I would cover food, parking and other costs on my own.
I want to join the Praxis Center which provides access to curators, private dealers, art critics, and galleries. They also provide mentorship and many other benefits. $600.
I also want a professional video of my art and an interview with me. I estimate that would cost at least $1400.
