About this idea
Nestled in the heart of the community, The District sits near one of the oldest and most treasured pieces of history in the area. It’s a place where stories come alive and memories are made. Jesse and Tori purchased the building in 2022 to turned the top two floors into their family home and are now working on converting the basement into a coffee shop that supports the community. They are both heavily involved in several community organizations and wanted to be able to open this space for the community to enjoy and gather.
Impact
Converting a historic building into a coffee shop like The District can enrich the community by preserving its heritage and creating a space that creates social connections and pride locally. It boosts the local economy by attracting foot traffic, creating jobs, and drawing tourists with its unique charm. As a sustainable approach to urban revitalization, it can inspire further investment in the area while serving as a hub for cultural events and gatherings. Balancing modern functionality with historic preservation ensures the space respects the neighborhood's character and values.
What I'll do with $5,000
The $5,000 will be put towards making the space handicap accessible so that we can be more inclusive.
