About this idea
January 18, 2021, I was on a ladder doing a roof repair when my ladder slid out from underneath me and I went down. When I woke up, I was laying on the frozen concrete with a broken wrist. This put me out of roofing almost immediately. Due to the nature of my injury, I lost full function of my right wrist. So, from that fall I created a safer and more reliable way to use an extension ladder. Thus, the ladder jock was born. according to OSHA, a ladder must not only extend 3 feet above the landing surface, but it must also be attached to that surface. To this day, professionals have used wires, ropes, bungee cords, strips of aluminum and even vinyl siding to attach a ladder to a roof. However, with the roofing Jock we can put those days behind us by simply attaching the ladder directly to the roof while maintaining OSHA compliance.
Impact
According to the American Orthopedic Association, there are 500,000 reported ladder falls annually, with 60% of those being extension ladders and of the 500,000 annual falls, 300 of them are fatal. Due to this astounding number of incidents, a product was necessary to help significantly reduce that number. The impact is simple, to revolutionize the way we conduct ladder safety, save lives, prevent injuries, save insurance costs and give our men and women out in the field a safer way to do their job with confidence.
What I'll do with $5,000
Product liability insurance is one of the most expensive aspects of my product and I cannot get this product out to the public without that insurance. So, if my product is lucky enough to be chosen, this $5,000 will be for insurance coverage for the product. I currently have many companies eyeing this product, however, the insurance coverage is what is holding me back from fulfilling P.O's.
