About this idea
I own a small tire shop here in Grand Rapids and we currently dispose of old tires just like any other shop would. we take our old tires to the local landfill my goal is to build a tire collection and recycling center. Our goal is to collect tires from my own and other shops as well as individuals from the area and recycle them into rubber mulch removing tons of non-biodegradable tires from landfills and streets.
Impact
this idea has huge environmental and health implications. my shop alone disposed of 85 tons of scrap tires last year. by recycling all those tires and making it easier for other members of the community to do the same we not only remove the pollution scrap tires produce but also eliminate the mosquito and mice breeding grounds.
What I'll do with $5,000
if we win the $5,000 we will use the funds to put toward the machines necessary for the grinding, cleaning, sorting, and dying of the tires to produce the rubber mulch. more specifically the side wall cutter which is the first step in a several-step process to convert a tire into the rubber mulch. In the case that we are not yet at the point of purchasing machinery we will put the funds to further our R&D efforts to make this a reality. The funds may also be used to secure a warehousing location for the tires and final product, if everything goes to plan we will need a lot more space than i currently have.
